Top 5 Mutual Fund Holders of Schlumberger

Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB) is the world’s leading oilfield services company. It provides customers with everything from physical equipment, such as drill bits and drilling rigs, to project management and the software to monitor a drilling rig or oilfield. Its sheer size provides the company with a competitive advantage in the current low energy price environment. As of July 2018, the combined holdings of the five largest mutual fund investors in Schlumberger’s common stock is 8.71%. 

Schlumberger announced its Q2 2018 earnings on July 20, 2018. The company reported $8.3 billion in revenue, indicating an increase of 6% from the last quarter. Pretax operating income totaled $1.1 billion for the quarter, a 12% increase from Q1.

Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX)

The Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (“VTSMX”) is a passively managed stock index fund with the objective of matching the total return of the entire US stock market. It accomplishes this objective by investing in more than 3,600 stocks included in the CRSP U.S. Total Market Index, according to their weighting in the index. The fund does an excellent job of matching the index’s return. As of June 30, 2018, the fund has assets under management (AUM) of $701.2 billion, a 0.14% expense ratio, a turnover rate of 3%, a five-year annualized total return of 13.69% and a Morningstar rating of four stars. The fund owns 34.63 million shares of the oilfield service company as of June 30, 2018, making it Schlumberger’s largest mutual fund investor. Schlumberger accounts for 0.33% of VTSMX’s total assets while VTSMX owns 2.5% of the total shares held in Schlumberger.  

Vanguard 500 Index Investor (VFINX) 

The Vanguard 500 Index Fund (“VFINX”) is a passively managed stock index fund that uses the S&P 500 Index as its guide. It barely misses matching the index’s return. As of June 2018, it has AUM of $414.7 billion, a 0.14% expense ratio, a turnover rate of 3%, a five-year annualized total return of 13.72% and a Morningstar rating of four stars. The fund owns 25.06 million shares of the company as of June 30, 2018. Schlumberger accounts for 0.4% of VFINX total assets while VFINX owns 1.81% of the total shares held in Schlumberger.

With 19.37 million shares, DODFX owns 1.40% of the total shares held in Schlumberger. Schlumberger accounts for 2.18% of DODFX’s total assets.

As of June 2018, It manages $19.02 billion in assets and has an expense ratio of 0.13% As of March 31, 2018 XLE has a five-year annualized total return of 1.24%. XLE holds 18.41 million shares of the company as of July 19, 2018. Schlumberger accounts for 6.51% of XLE’s total assets while XLE owns 1.33% of the total shares held in Schlumberger.  

Harbor International Institutional (HAINX)
